Dear Reader,

In case you missed our last issue or have not been updated on the Conference 2018’s theme, behold that it will be on ‘digitalisation’, and the newly unveiled slogan is Going Digital: Unleashing the potential for SNRD Asia and TUEWAS.

Aptly in line with the company-wide digital change framework, it proves all the more timely that we pick up this topic and be well-equipped for what is to come.

For the long time GIZ staffer, you have probably seen first-hand how digitalisation has impacted your everyday work: from making use of drones and satellite data in crop monitoring or utilising satellite images in identifying global forest loss. Given this, it is hard to imagine our day-to-day work without any digital presence.

Nevertheless, some might be reluctant to new technologies at times. Just like how they say change is not always easy.

But for us as a community of experts collaborating across geographical borders, it has been a while coming that the digital revolution has transformed and eased how we engage. Our Steering and Working Group meetings have been taking place virtually and recently more seamlessly owing to the introduction of Skype for Business (safe for the annual face-to-face meeting and the big conference where physical meetings is still crucial).

As per every issue, get updated on what has been happening within our community in the round-up section. If the topic of SDGs is your calling, do not miss the SDGs project perspectives in the Spotlight. Catch this issue is a National Personnel Strategy, envisioned to promote participation of national staff in SNRD Asia.

Last but not least, watch out for “Conference 2018’s Save the Date”! Coming soon to your inbox!!!

Best regards,

Lena Kern

“My name is Marie and I have background in political science and a genuine interest in a broad range of environmental and climate change issues. Recently, I have taken up Speaker position for the CCA WG, a good move since my work currently involves planning for and integrating climate change risks in the Thai policy context. In my role as the Speaker, I would like to promote cross-WG collaboration and enhance knowledge exchange between adaptation projects in the region using innovative formats.”

“Namaste! I’m Jona and heading the Green Innovation Centre project in India. Our project joined SNRD Asia recently and we are happy to belong to the regional agri-community now. We work on tomato and potato based value chains mainly in southern India and are convinced that market oriented interventions will help farmers and businesses in up- and downstream sectors to take the advantages of Indian horticulture. We are looking forward to sharing our experiences with you and are keen to learn from your project activities. “
